Pipe Insulation
Removal.

Pre-1980s buildings across New York are full of asbestos pipe wrap and boiler insulation. We remove it safely, properly dispose of it, and clear the space for your next project.

The Pipe Wrap Problem

Walk into the basement of almost any pre-1980s building in New York and look up. You will probably see white, chalky pipe insulation wrapping the hot water lines and boiler. A lot of it — maybe most of it — is asbestos.

Pipe wrap asbestos is considered friable, which means the fibers release into the air easily when the material is disturbed. That makes it one of the most dangerous forms of asbestos in a building — and one of the most important to have removed by licensed specialists.

Where We Find It

  • Basement hot water lines
  • Boiler jackets & boiler rooms
  • Steam pipes in older apartments
  • Elbow & fitting insulation
  • Mechanical rooms
  • Crawl space heating runs
  • Tenant storage areas
  • Commercial HVAC risers

How We Remove It

Pipe insulation removal is one of the most containment-sensitive jobs in asbestos work. Because the material is friable, a single wrong move can send fibers through an entire basement. We take extra precautions on every pipe job.

  1. 01

    Full Basement Containment

Poly sheeting walls, HEPA-filtered negative air machines, and decon chambers before anything gets touched.

  2. 02

    Glove Bag Technique

For smaller jobs, we use sealed glove bags directly over the pipe so fibers never hit open air.

  3. 03

    Wet Method

Larger runs are wetted thoroughly and removed in sections into sealed waste containers.

  4. 04

    Final HEPA & Clearance

Every surface in the containment area is HEPA-vacuumed and wet-wiped, then cleared by third-party air testing.
